BS to DNAP Applicant Requirements

To be accepted/admitted into the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor鈥檚 degree in nursing
  • Graduation from an accredited (ACEN or CCNE) nursing program
  • Current licensure as an RN
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale
  • Minimum of 1 year (2 years preferred), full-time experience as a registered nurse in a critical care area within the United States, its territories, or a U.S. military hospital outside of the United States
  • Prerequisite courses: one course in chemistry (preferred organic/biochemistry, organic chemistry, or biochemistry) and one course in elementary statistics or epidemiology
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications valid through the end of the first academic year (required prior to entering the program)

MS to DNAP Applicant Requirements

To be admitted into the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice post master鈥檚 program, the applicant must meet the following requirements:

  • Master鈥檚 degree in nursing or other appropriate Master鈥檚 degree that provided the ability for the graduate to obtain certification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist
  • Graduation from an accredited (COA) Nurse Anesthesia program
  • Current licensure as an RN and current certification as a CRNA
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale

All application materials must be received no later than July 1 of the current application year.

To apply to the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program, you will complete the application via NursingCAS. NursingCAS is a service that allows applicants to use a single online application and one set of materials to apply to any participating schools. Below are instructions on how to submit your DNAP application to 麻豆社 University.

Step 1: Create Your NursingCAS Account
Visit and click 鈥淎pply Here鈥
Click on 鈥淐reate Account鈥 and complete the required fields in order to start your application.

Step 2: Select Your Program
Please select the following options within their respective drop down menus:

School: 麻豆社
Location: South Dakota
Degree Type: Choose either BS to DNAP or MS to DNAP
Delivery: Hybrid; On Campus for Nurse Anesthesia

After selecting your program, proceed to Review My Selections.
After reviewing, continue to your application.

Step 3: Personal Information
You will need to thoroughly complete all seven areas of the personal information section.

Step 4: Academic History
There are five sections within Academic History, but only two are required. The Standardized Tests section is required if you need to complete the TOEFL.

  1. Colleges Attended
    Please follow the instructions provided by NursingCAS to add colleges. Official transcripts are required for 麻豆社. Please download a Transcript Request Form for each college, and submit the form to your institution鈥檚 Registrar. Transcripts sent directly to the program will not be accepted.
  2. Transcript Entry
    In this section, you will be prompted to start your coursework entry. 麻豆社 requires full coursework entry. We acknowledge that this process can be labor-intensive, and we encourage entering this information early on in the application process.
    Helpful HintHaving your unofficial transcript(s) handy when completing this section can make the process go more smoothly. Once all your coursework has been entered, you will be prompted to review and finalize your transcripts. Please review your coursework entry very carefully, as it cannot be edited once you submit your application. Failure to properly enter your coursework can result in a delay of transcript verification.
  3. Standardized Tests
    GRE: The GRE exam is optional for admission.

Step 5: Evaluations / References

  1. BS to DNAP References: Three (3) professional references are required: one from your current nursing unit director/manager, one from a current nursing unit shift supervisor, and one from a current professional nursing colleague. The reference letters should attest to the applicant鈥檚 preparation, initiative, and aptitude for successful completion of doctoral education. All references should be in the form of a letter.
  2. MS to DNAP References: Three (3) professional references are required: 1 from the applicant鈥檚 Immediate Supervisor, and 2 from colleagues who can attest to the applicant鈥檚 preparation, initiative, and aptitude for successful completion of doctoral education. All references should be in the form of a reference letter.

Once you鈥檝e completed all of the above steps and are confident of your materials, click the submit and pay field. Remember you will need to submit the application fee to NursingCAS. 麻豆社 University requires a $35 application fee also. Please submit payment to 麻豆社 using the following link: .

Helpful Tips

Apply Early
All materials must be submitted to NursingCAS and applications must be complete by the application deadline for consideration. Once submitted, NursingCAS will go through the verification stage. This usually takes 7-10 days barring any issue or missing materials. Earlier submission of your application may warrant an early interview invitation.

Monitor Your NursingCAS Portal
Monitor your NursingCAS application portal weekly for completion of tasks such as verification of your transcripts and receiving recommendations. Notifications regarding your application will only be sent through your NursingCAS portal, and it is your responsibility to be checking and taking action on necessary tasks.

Keep Application Instructions Available
We encourage you keep these instructions open when completing your NursingCAS application.

Communicate with NursingCAS
If there is an issue with your application, you will need to communicate directly with NursingCAS. There are application instructions on the NursingCAS website that may be helpful as well.

Follow NursingCAS on Social Media
There are many helpful instructional videos, message boards or application tips available on NursingCAS鈥 Twitter account and YouTube channel. You are encouraged to use those avenues to find support or help with your application.

The Admissions Committee will carefully review all components, including completed application and supporting material, academic performance, nursing experience, and references. Because class size is limited, not all candidates who meet minimum requirements will be invited for interview. All applicants will receive a notification regarding invitation for interview within 6 weeks of the application deadline. Interviews will be conducted on the Nurse Anesthesia campus in Sioux Falls September 28 - October 2.

Once the cohort has been chosen, the Clinical Director utilizes the preference data to determine the clinical location assignments. Students cannot be guaranteed clinical site preferences when assignments are made due to clinical site limitations.

All students must attest that they meet the Core Performance Standards upon entrance to the program, and throughout their student experiences.

Traits of a competitive applicant

  • Two or more years in a critical care unit (ICU, CCU, SICU, MICU, NICU, PICU) within the last three years.
  • Specialty certification such as CCRN*, TNCC, CMC, CSC, etc.
  • Experience as a preceptor or ability to assume charge position duties on a given shift.
  • Service to the community, church or nursing unit.
  • Commitment to the nursing profession.
  • Knowledge of the role of a nurse anesthetist through a variety of shadowing experiences.
